We have a guest post by Gavin Hanson on toy lines that are compatible with Minimates. Take it away, Gavin!
Minimates are many things. They are diverse and, despite their small size, they have quite a lot of articulation. One of the only things that Minimates fail to provide to the line is a place or scene to display them in. While it’s true that there was a DC Minimates building set line, unfortunately it ended prematurely.
Luckily for us, other companies have stepped up to the plate to help with that! Building block companies such as Lego, Mega Bloks, and McFarlane Toys have been making more and more toys and sets that scale nearly perfectly with Minimates.
For example, McFarlane Toys has been producing lines for The Walking Dead and Five Nights at Freddys. These building sets are an amazing fit, and not just for the corresponding Walking Dead Minimate line, but also for battle damaged buildings for the middle of a superhero battle, or for super villain bases.
The Call of Duty and TMNT lines by Mega Bloks are also an excellent resource.
Lego is also one to keep an eye out for if you need vehicles. The continuous “Marvel Super Heroes” line is especially perfect, providing Minimate collectors with specific vehicles and other structures we’d normally be lacking. Take a character like Detroit Steel - a character like that would very hard for DST to pull off, but luckily for us Lego has us covered.
But don’t think the compatibility is limited only to building block toys. Sometimes a character that DST has left out, or just isn't able to make can be substituted with another company's rendition! Just look at the DST’s turtles matched up with Playmates’ Snakeweed! Many larger TMNT enemies can be harvested from this line.
Overall, Minimates are a great line. But when you combine them with another company's products, it can make great things happen! So keep this in mind next time you want to add a little spice to your display or pictures: when you expand your horizons to other brands, the possibilities are endless.
What other toy lines do you use with Minimates?
